internet_parental_control• Set traffic limits.
Limit the amount of downloading your children are able to do. This will help prevent the downloading of inappropriate material or software programs that they would otherwise install on the PC.

• Limit your children to certain websites, newsgroups, and chat rooms.
Discuss with your children the importance of this and their safety. Decide upon which websites are appropriate and are not. Limit their use of instant messaging and chat rooms.

• Never give out personal information.
Be sure your kids know that they are never to give out any personal information no matter what they think they are being prompted for. Even reputable websites will ask for such information as part of a sign up process. This should never be allowed without parental supervision.

• Do not use online profiles.
Make certain your children know to never use online profiles. This will help keep them anonymous and out of directories where pedophiles often search for their prey.

• Never allow your child to meet up with someone that they have met online.
This cannot be overstated. Make sure your child clearly understands the importance of this.

• Periodically check the websites visited log.
