Internet safety for kids is a very important topic for any parent whose children have access to the internet making internet parental control software a must for many parents. Nowadays, kids are surfing the internet in record numbers.
Kids are spending more and more of their time in this unregulated arena, because of the vast proliferation of internet games, chat venues, and getting their schoolwork done. Remember, the internet has opened up a whole new world for kids; a world that has many positives, but also a world where parents need child internet filters. Children need parental supervision, rules, and straightforward discussions, when it comes to kids and the internet.
Here are some basic child online safety tips and how you can adapt them to your situation:
• Keep the PC in a visible place in the house. Try to look at the monitor occasionally. Stop near computer and ask questions. Check to see if you walk by unexpectedly if the child quickly closes the screen. You may visually inspect the system tray at the bottom to see if multiple instances of the browser are open. If either of these is true, you should investigate further.
• Spend time on the internet with them. Spending time with your child is never a bad thing. This is especially true when we're talking about the internet. Help them to identify inappropriate sites and communications. Teach them how to do productive activities that they enjoy and will learn from.
• Don't allow open-ended use of the internet. Schedule and limit the amount of time your child spends on the internet (and the computer for that matter). Of course, younger kids will get less time than older kids that may have more complex projects to complete. Plus, by limiting their time, your kids will learn to surf only to those sites that they need and not waste their internet time' traveling aimlessly around the web.
