Problems with the input of speech mean that the child probably has some difficulties with hearing. 3. Problems with the output of speech mean that the child can not produce speech due to physiological reasons.

Many speech delays can also be caused by oral-motor problems, meaning there is unproductive communication in the areas of the brain responsible for production of the speech. The child comes into difficulty using tongue, lips and jaw while producing speech sounds. Speech delay may also be a sign of a more global problems caused by developmental delay or problems with hearing.
